THE CORPORATION OF
THE MUNICIPALITY OF KINCARDINE
Inclusion Diversity Equity & Access Advisory Committee Agenda

-
Electronic Meeting

The Inclusion Diversity Equity & Access Advisory Committee meeting of The Corporation of the Municipality of Kincardine will be called to Order at 5:30 p.m. on October 26, 2021 electronically.

We would like to begin by acknowledging that we are meeting on the traditional lands and treaty territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which includes the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation whose ancestors were the first to inhabit, care for and live on this land.

We recognize and deeply appreciate the contributions that Indigenous Peoples have made, both in caring for this land and shaping and strengthening this community, our province, and our country.

As a public service organization, we are dedicated to learning and acknowledging Indigenous history and culture and are committed to actions that move us towards a journey of truth, healing and reconciliation with the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON), the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) and the Historic Saugeen Métis (HSM)

Trish Meekins will lead the committee in setting the intentions for the meeting.

THAT the minutes of the IDEA Committee of September 28, 2021 be adopted as presented.

The IDEA Committee began to brainstorm potential priority/actions for the IDEA strategy at the September 28, 2021 meeting. These ideas will be included with the collective public engagement input received from Fall 2021. Once all of the input is collected actions will be prioritized based on several factors/criteria yet to be determined. This list of priorities will be updated/built upon as the input is gathered.

The Committee to provide feedback on the draft IDEA Strategy Engagement Plan as presented.

Staff to provide an update on the Reconciliation Action Plan process & progress.

Discussion:

  • Should we move forward with acknowledgement of days of significance?
  • Are there community groups that live in this community that are not represented in this list?
  • What other dates should we consider if we move forward with this recognition? It is important to note that most of the dates change each year with the calendar.

The Committee to provide feedback on budget priorities and needs to then be incorporated into annual Municipal budget activities.
