The Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of The Corporation of the Municipality of Kincardine was called to Order at 4:03 p.m. on October 19, 2023.

Miranda Graham opened the meeting with the Land Acknowledgment Statement.

None.

Deferred to a future meeting.

Tracey advised that setting up regular tour dates, for members of the Committee to tour facilities, would assist with updating the Multi Year Accessibility Plan - Catalogue of Issues.  If members could advise of a suitable time each month, we can prepare a schedule.

A discussion ensued regarding having the Committee priorities identified in the Plan, to be brought forward.  The discussion will continue under Delegation to Council.

Tracey advised that the Committee has been invited to the December 19, 2023 BIA Meeting at 9am.  The BIA will be hearing from Sean Kelly, Landscape Architect working on the downtown Kincardine streetscape design.

Forward comments on the accessible parking spaces to Tracey prior to the next meeting.  The Committee will provide the document to Staff when completed.

It was noted that new doors have been recently installed into the hall at the Davidson Centre, that do not meet the AODA or FADS requirements.

    The Accessibility Advisory Committee recommends that the doors into the public hall, be upgraded to be accessible, as per the AODA and the FADS.

    Carried.

The Committee expressed concerns, with having their list of priorities before Council, before the 2024 budget is finalized.  The Committee will present a Delegation to Council, on November 22, 2023.  Tracey will work with the Chair to begin the presentation, and arrange a Special Meeting to discuss priorities.

The Committee reviewed the proposal and offered the following recommendations:

  • Staff follow the FADS for the washroom amenities, door width, water fountain;
  • Recommend a non-slip floor be added;
  • Appropriate accessible signage to be posted;
  • An accessible parking space be installed closed to the accessible washroom;
  • And drainage in front of the washroom be addressed;
  • The book from Julie Sawchuk on ‘Building Better Bathrooms’ is available upon request; and
  • The AAC is available to assist if needed.

SMART Minutes dated May 26 and June 23, 2023 were reviewed by the Committee.

Tracey drafted a proposed meeting schedule for 2024, to be reviewed and passed at the next meeting.
